PİRSHAGHI Station
Multimedia installation, 4 channels, video, sound, 2025
Railway transport is one of the most environmentally friendly modes of transport. Its energy efficiency makes railways a key element in the logistics of a Green Future. But train travel is more than just movement—it's also an opportunity to watch changing landscapes, meet different people, and feel the flow of life.
The main point that unites the artists of the project is that they live in the neighboring settlements of Absheron, and their daily means of transportation is an electric train moving in the Baku-Pirshagi direction. At the same time, they are united by the interest in the scenery that passes quickly through the window of the train, hiding countless interesting objects and their stories.
One of these objects is the "Sand bath" of the 19th century, which is located in the Pirshagi settlement, near the sea, and is considered a historical and cultural monument.
Tamira Ibrahimova's video art called "Memory Road", her present day and her childhood memories are silently intermingled. The ancient bath, which he often passes by as a child, becomes for him a turning point where his body memory is awakened and the linear flow of time disappears.
Nigar Safarova's animation "Breath of Sand" visualizes the story of the Sand bath, which was once heated only by the heat of a candle. When sand turns to light and light melts like wax, this work highlights how fragile and fragile our heritage is.
Elnur Babayev's video titled "Old bath" presents this architectural monument, which is still existing, but is rapidly falling apart, with documentary images taken more than 30 years ago, during his visit to the Sand bath together with the author's father - People's Artist of Azerbaijan Rasim Babayev.
Sabina Shikhlinskaya in her video art called "Déjà vu", relives in her memories the artistic action dedicated to the Sand bath, which she took part in in 1999 with the "Labyrinth" group of artists, and continues this performance today, dedicating it once again to this unique example of Absheron architecture.
